An Allowance for Multiple Children Born at the Same Time

The allowance for multiple children born at the same time is a type of state social benefit granted by the state once per year in order to cover increased costs arising as a result of due care for multiple-born children. Upon meeting certain conditions even a foreigner with a permanent residence on the territory of the Slovak Republic is entitled to receive the benefit.

Multiple children born at the same time are:

  • three or more children born at the same time
  • two children born repeatedly at the same time during a period of two years, or more than two children repeatedly born at the same time during a period of two years.

A person entitled to claim the allowance is:

  • parent of a child or
  • a natural person who has the children entrusted into his/her care as a replacement for parental care.

Conditions:

  • at least three of children are 15 years old or younger; in case of two or more children repeatedly delivered at the same time during a period of two years, the age level of children born first is taken into account,
  • due care provided by the entitled person and
  • permanent residence and domicile of the entitled person and children on the territory of the Slovak Republic.

In case several persons meet the conditions, only one person, as agreed by the entitled persons, can receive the allowance. In case there is no agreement, a person that claimed the allowance first is entitled to receive it.

Amount of benefit

The amount of the supplementary child allowance is EUR 110.36/year and this amount is being adjusted each year on January 1st of the calendar year.

Application

  • The entitled person can apply for the allowance by submitting a written application to the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, department of State Social Benefits according to the place of permanent residence.
  • The application must contain given name, surname, date of birth, social security number (if allocated) and the residential address of the entitled person of the child, in relation to which the entitlement to parental allowance is being claimed.
  • In case the child was born outside of the territory of the Slovak Republic, an official translation of the child’s Birth Certificate must also be attached to the application (an equivalent document)
  • The entitled person can claim the allowance entitlement in each calendar year on the day of the calendar month that numerically matches the day and month of children’s date of birth; the first entitlement is claimed after the completion of the first year of age of three or more children born at the same time or after completion of the first year of age of the younger children from the pair of two or more children born at the same time.

Expiration of the entitlement: 6 months after the starting date of the allowance entitlement.
