Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Documents and Professional Qualifications Obtained Abroad for Healthcare Professionals from Ukraine

The Migration Information Centre IOM Slovakia offers the possibility to apply for a financial contribution for the recognition of education documents and professional qualifications obtained abroad for healthcare professionals from Ukraine. The project is financed by the USA - Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

Attention! At the moment, the opportunity to apply for Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Documents and Professional Qualifications Obtained Abroad for Healthcare Professionals from Ukraine has been suspended.

Eligible applicants:   

  • healthcare professionals from Ukraine who came to Slovakia as a result of the war conflict in Ukraine.

Types of contributions:   

a) Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Professional Qualifications Obtained Abroad for the Pursuit of Regulated Professions(hereinafter referred to as "Contribution A") - intended for an applicant who needs recognition of completed education from abroad for the pursuit of a regulated profession, e., a profession that requires specific training and in case of a foreign qualification a recognition of professional qualifications is required.  

b) Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Obtained Abroad for the Purpose of the Continuation of Studies in Slovakia or any other Purpose, Except for the Pursuit of Regulated Professions (hereinafter referred to as "Contribution B") - intended for an applicant who needs recognition of education completed abroad for the purpose of continuing further education or for other purposes, except for recognition for the pursuit of regulated professions.  

(c) Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Professional Medical Qualifications Obtained Outside of the European Union (hereinafter referred to as "Contribution C") - intended for an applicant who, in addition to the recognition of an education document acquired in the territory of a non-member State, is required to take a supplementary examination at a higher education institution (pursuant to the provisions of Section 18a of Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of education documents and on the recognition of professional qualifications and amendments to certain regulations), which provides the same study programme as the one completed in order to verify the applicant's actual knowledge of the recognition of the completed medical education from abroad for the exercise of the regulated health profession in the Slovak Republic (applies to all health professions).   

Process for submitting the Application for a Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Documents and Professional Qualifications from Abroad:   

Step 1: Recognition of foreign education  

  • The tasks related to the recognition of a foreign educational document or professional qualification are carried out within the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport by the Centre for the Recognition of Educational Documents (SUDV);  
  • Information about the application procedure, as well as application forms for recognition of foreign education, can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic 
  • If you cannot find the necessary information on the above mentioned website of the Ministry, you can contact the Centre for Recognition of Diplomas (CRD) directly by email or telephone.   

Step 2: Completing and submitting the Application for a Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Documents and Professional Qualifications from Abroad  

Step 3: Add information to the application  

  • If your application is complete and meets all the requirements, we will process it. However, we reserve the right to request additional information or documentation if necessary.  

Step 4: Evaluation of the application   

  • If your application is complete, it will be assessed by the Migration Information Centre Commission ("MIC Commission"). We will inform you of the MIC Commission’s decision within 10 working days of receiving your application.   
  • All applications that meet the requirements and for which the consultation process has been completed will be included in the decision-making process for the allocation of the financial contribution.  
  • There is no legal entitlement to the financial contribution.   

Step 5: Contract for the financial contribution for recognition of education from abroad  

  • If you the financial contribution for recognition of foreign education has been granted, you will have to sign a Contract on the Provision of a Non-Refundable Financial Contribution for the Recognition of Education Documents and/or Professional Qualifications Obtained Abroad with IOM Slovakia 
  • The financial contribution is paid upon successful completion of the process of recognition and submission of the necessary documentation in the form of a reimbursement.  

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

Eligible expenses do NOT include the fee for the services of an intermediary agency, only primary and secondary expenses necessary for the recognition process (e.g. administrative fee, fees for language translations, notary fees, etc.). In order to be considered for reimbursement for the expenses related to the recognition of education, you (the applicant) must submit copies of original proofs of payment for any of the primary or secondary expenses (e.g. proof of payment for the administrative fee, proof of payment for language translation, etc.). The invoice from the intermediary agency, listing the individual costs of the primary and secondary expenses, is not sufficient.
