Permanent residence for an unlimited time

The Foreign Police may grant permanent residence for an unlimited time to a foreign national, who:
- has held permanent residence for five years at least for 4 years;
- is a child younger than 18 years of age of a foreigner with permanent residence for an unlimited time.

The application for permanent residence for an unlimited time must be submitted in person, using an official form at the Foreign Police Department in Slovakia.
The applicant must present a valid passport and submit one photo as well as documents, not older than 90 days, proving:
- financial coverage of their residence;
- health insurance in Slovakia and
- clear criminal record, if the foreign national is a child over 14 and under 18 years of age of a foreign national who was granted permanent residence permit for an unlimited time.
If the applicant does not submit a valid passport, the Foreign Policewill not accept the application. The Police may also request a document (not older than 90 days) confirming that the applicant has secured accommodation in Slovakia and an affidavit certifying that the purpose for granting of the residence still exists. Application processing time is 90 days.

The application must be submitted on an official form issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

Finances
The stay of the applicant must be financially covered in the amount of 12 times the subsistence minimum (from July 2024 the sum of the subsistence minimum is EUR 273.99). The financial coverage can be proved by submitting either bank account statements for the last three months held in the name of the foreign national or an employer's confirmation of the applicant's monthly salary.

Accommodation
Document confirming the provision of accommodation can, for example, be an affidavit of real estate ownership (if the foreigner is the owner of the property), a lease with the owner of the property, confirmation of the accommodation facility (e.g. a hotel or a boarding house), or an affidavit of a physical person or a legal entity of provision of accommodation to the foreign national.
